Role: Wicket Keeper for the Women’s Team
The initial reason for beginning as a cricketer in 2018, was really to be an awesome mum! My two sons played, and I wanted to be able to play with them.
These days, my enthusiasm outweighs theirs by some distance. I joined the West Lancs team when it was established in 2022.
My main role is wicket keeping. When I am behind the stumps with my keeping gloves on, I am in my happy place. Although a physically demanding role, as keeper you are always in the game and there is nothing like the feeling of knocking off those bails or taking a catch, nicked off the bat.
My best performances have always been as a keeper. I have had multiple catches, stumpings and run outs in lots of games but I am always pleased with simply stopping the missed balls and preventing byes as this makes an enormous difference in scores.
One of the many things I love about this game is its inclusivity. I am an older player with an auto-immune disease. However, I have thrown myself into training to be the best wicket keeper I can be, and I therefore have something to offer the team. Everyone has something to offer: batting, bowling, fielding. And when it all comes together… Wow! Magic.
